Sad News From Operation Migration

18 juvenile whooping cranes were found dead yesterday in their enclosure, as a result of the tornados that ripped through Florida. For a species that was reduced to 15 individuals by 1941, and since brought back by a captive breeding program to a current total of 453 such birds, the loss of 18 is catastrophic.

Update:
One survived

  1. How sad and this is catastrophic for sure! :( If anything, I hope this encourages more people to help support this wonderful project so that they can make up for the lost of such special birds!
